Established in 2013, The Little Bakery is run by father and son team Kerr and Nick Little, supported by a hard-working team of bakers and pie makers. We use traditional methods and real ingredients to make products that delight our customers.
We love trading at farmers markets, enjoying the feedback we get direct from the people who buy and enjoy our products. Over the years we have increasingly focused on increasing our range of pies, which are all based on a traditional scotch pie shell, with a vegetarian shell for our veggie pies.
Based in Dumfries, in southwest Scotland, we produce a wide range of traditional bakery goods alongside our extensive pie range.
Pie Shells
Our pie shells are made from hot water crust pastry, more commonly known as scotch pie shells. They’re straight sided, about 8cm in diameter and 4cm high. Scotch pies were originally designed as a hearty, nutritious food that was easy to eat on the go. The pie shell itself is robust and is a great shape for packing with delicious fillings. Our scotch pies are made in the traditional way with a soft lid, but many of our pies are topped with puff pastry lids which we think gives a great mix of textures and flavours.
World Scotch Pie Champions
In 2019 The Little Bakery won the World Scotch Pie Championship, when Kerr was presented with the giant pie trophy by Carole Smillie. The prestigious awards are organised by Scottish Bakers, and Alasdair Smith, Chief Executive of Scottish Bakers, explained: "When it comes to Scotch pie there are so many components to get right. It's such a simple looking product, but such a complex thing. Kerr absolutely nailed everything - it looked great, tasted great - and it shone above all the other entrants."
